Archbishop Wester has made the following liturgical direction for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.

Because October 4 falls on a Sunday in Ordinary Time and is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, principal patron of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, the Feast of St. Francis takes precedence.  Therefore, the proper Mass of the Feast of St. Francis is to be celebrated at all Saturday evening anticipated Masses and at all Masses on Sunday, October 4, throughout the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.

This celebration is particularly significant because we are currently observing the Year of St. Francis.  This special year gives us an opportunity as an Archdiocese to come together in a particular way to celebrate our patron and to reflect on his Gospel witness – his love of Christ, his simplicity of life, his care for creation, his commitment to peace, and his love for those who are poor and in need.

May St. Francis, our patron, continue to intercede for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and inspire us to be instruments of Christ’s peace.
